NEW YORK—If you have plans to attend this year’s International Hotel/Motel & Restaurant Show in New York City and are interested in checking out vendors that sell green products, you may want to bring some comfortable shoes. Suppliers of environmentally friendly products will not be segregated in one spot but located around the huge trade show floor. That is probably a good thing; all of the show’s free food samples justify the miles of walking.

“The defining characteristic of the 91st annual International Hotel/Motel and Restaurant Show is ‘new,’ says Christian Falkenberg, show manager. “This show promises to introduce innovative new products, generate new ideas and spark new inspiration. From buyers shopping the foodservice aisles, to hospitality designers spotting emerging trends, attendees are assured an impressive showcase of the latest and greatest products for the industry.”

This fall’s event will take place November 11 to 14 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. Thirty-five thousand attendees and 1,400 exhibitors are expected. In addition to the trade show on November 12 to 14, the Hospitality Leadership Forum will be held on November 11. The keynote luncheon speaker at the Forum will be Rudy Giuliani, former New York City mayor. No panel discussions with a specific environmental theme are planned but it is possible green topics could be discussed, especially during the CEO Leadership Panel and International Society of Hospitality Consultants’ Top 10 Issues Hoteliers Will Face in 2007 session.

The lodging industry’s largest annual U.S. trade show is a great place to learn about the latest energy-saving wizardry, whether in cooking equipment, heating and cooling, cleaning and maintenance and much more. A visit to the show’s website provides an at-a-glance look at the industry categories that will be represented at the event: Air Cleaners & Smoke Removers, Energy Conservation Equipment, Energy Management Systems, Laundry Equipment, Light Bulbs, Recycling Equipment, Showerheads and more.

Some of the companies exhibiting green products this year include: Pure Solutions, Energy Eye, Energex, Lodging Technology, Excel Dryer, Inncom International, Sloan Valve, Goodman Co. L.P./Amana PTAC, Onity, Saflok, BrandAroma, Orbeco, Pellerin Milnor and many others.
