MÉRIDA, MEXICO—Mundo Imperial Entertainment & Hospitality debuts WAYAM Mundo Imperial, the company’s first hotel in Mérida and the first LEED-certified property in the city. WAYAM Mundo Imperial is a green oasis that bridges sleek urban design with the historic landscape of its setting.
Located in García Ginerés, one of Mérida’s oldest and most iconic neighborhoods, WAYAM is housed in a century-old residence reimagined with modern design touches, blending indoors and outdoors to immerse guests in a lush experience of the senses. The resort features a central, five-story-tall mango tree and 10 sculptures by renowned Mexican artist Carlos Marin. Forward-thinking amenities include dog-friendly accommodations, aromatherapy and wellness experiences, and design according to the Golden Ratio.
“WAYAM is a natural next step for Mundo Imperial as sustainable travel has become more important than ever. Guests will find each element of the resort was carefully designed to complement the green experience while offering the best of Mérida’s history and culture,” said Mauricio Ramirez, Commercial & Marketing Director at Mundo Imperial Entertainment & Hospitality.
Signature Restaurant Cuna
Pleasing guests’ palates at WAYAM is signature restaurant Cuna, a gastronomic concept created and helmed by Chef Maycoll Calderon, known for his award-winning restaurants and bar in Mexico City. Named after the Spanish word for “cradle,” Cuna is an open-kitchen format highlighting honest, homegrown ingredients cooked in a gentle and protective way. One of Cuna’s highlights is its craft mixology. The restaurant hosts a monthly dinner series “Cena entre Amigos” (Dinner Among Friends), in which Chef Calderon invites guest chefs from across Mexico and the world to cook together, creating an amazing gastronomic experience. In the courtyard, Cuna Cafe serves locally brewed coffee, grab-and-go options, and light cocktails. By the rooftop pool, open-air Marinera Pool Bar offers stunning city views, craft mixology rooted in local flavors, and artisanal beers. From their room, WAYAM guests can quench their thirst with a specialized water menu of five carefully selected Mexican brands.
WAYAM Mundo Imperial is located steps away from Mérida’s historic downtown & attractions including Paseo Montejo, and 20 minutes from the Mérida International Airport.
