BOSTON—Further increasing the property’s emphasis on reducing the carbon footprint of its hotel and meeting facilities, Seaport Hotel and Seaport World Trade Center (Seaport) announced the appointment of Matthew V. Moore as director of rooms and environmental programs.

In 2005, Seaport established its comprehensive environmental program called Seaport Saves. Today with more than 20 green initiatives in place, the program focuses on energy-saving and carbon reducing features including BioX composting, ‘smart’ thermostats, and an ozone laundry system.

“At Seaport, we believe in providing guests with a luxury experience while also minimizing our impact on the environment,” said Jim Carmody, vice president and general manager of Seaport. “Our three-year-old green program isn’t a trend; it’s the way we approach our business every day. We’re proud of our strong position in supporting green initiatives in the hospitality industry, and we are confident that Matt will continue to enhance our program.”

In his role, Moore will oversee the Seaport Saves program and lead the efforts of the Seaport green team, a group of employees who implement new eco-friendly programs. He is responsible for continuing to develop innovative ways to improve Seaport’s operation in an environmentally responsible manner.

A 13-year hospitality veteran, Moore joined Seaport in 2005 as director of rooms. His previous experience includes roles with XV Beacon Hotel and Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, including properties in Boston and Dublin, Ireland. Moore is an advisory board member for both Boston Green Tourism and Philadelphia Green Tourism. He is also a member of both the Chefs Collaborative, a national culinary organization dedicated to promoting sustainable cuisine, and A Better City, a nonprofit focused on sustaining and growing the Boston area economy.
