TRENTON, N.J.—Hotel amenities are now more readily recyclable, thanks to a new partnership between manufacturing leader Marietta Corporation and TerraCycle. Until recently, hotels had limited recycling options for the small bottles and soaps, however Marietta is providing a solution for its partners so these products no longer have to go to the landfill. The collected containers will be recycled into new products such as hangers, ice buckets and recycling bins to be used in hotel rooms.

Finding a way to reduce plastics and packaging in landfills has been a priority for Marietta as part of its Social Responsibility Plan.

“We are committed to collaborating with our partners to work and live in a way that is environmentally responsible,” said Vince Panzanella, Marietta director of Marketing & Communications. “Our relationship with TerraCycle fits perfectly with our environmental responsibility program, and we are excited to be able to offer this recycling option to our hotel partners.”

Sustainable Approach to Manufacturing

“Marietta was intent on lessening the hospitality industry’s carbon footprint and so we both took a look at how we could work together to make a difference,” says Tom Szaky, TerraCycle CEO. “The fact they are offering this solution to their hotel partners and then having us make new products with the recycled plastic reduces or eliminates the use and production of virgin materials.”

Marietta is in talks with its hotel partners to begin implementing the amenity reclamation program. Interested hotel owners can also contact Marietta or TerraCycle for more information.

TerraCycle is known for its consumer collection programs that collect non-recyclable products and packaging. Through those, TerraCycle has already kept more than two billion pieces of trash from going to the landfill, and with its partners, dispersed more than $2 million to charity.
