KALAMAZOO, MICH.—Landscape Forms, North America’s leading designer and manufacturer of high-design lighting, site furniture, structure, and accessories, unveils the redesigned Candela by urbidermis. This evolution of Gonzalo Milà’s iconic 2009 design brings enhanced performance, adaptability, and sustainability to the forefront of urban lighting.

Candela quickly became a benchmark in urban illumination with a human-centered philosophy. Its slim oval silhouette and understated elegance have defined public spaces around the world, enhancing the way people experience cities after dark.

“We prioritized evolution, over reinvention,” says Jordi Muñoz, Chief Product Officer at urbidermis. “We’ve enhanced Candela’s usability and sustainability while maintaining the elegance that defined the original vision.”

Building on this enduring legacy, the redesigned Candela enhances performance and adaptability through refined engineering and expanded options. Its high pressure cast aluminum housing provides a refined, sleek and lighter weight construction, paired with anodized finishes and stainless-steel hardware designed to withstand demanding environments. A new steel and aluminum pole option adds structural flexibility, while the available house-side shield option minimizes backlight. Together, these additions create a flexible system that accommodates a wide range of applications and performance needs.

For Quiet Residential Streets to Vibrant Urban Plazas

The redesigned Candela retains its signature visual identity while integrating expanding LED offerings. In combination with a wide range of lumen packages and distribution options, including backlight control, Candela is able to seamlessly adapt to environments ranging from quiet residential streets to vibrant urban plazas.

Candela offers pole configurations from 16 to 30 feet lens height, with multiple arm lengths, light distributions, and drive currents available. Updated arm mount introduces a cleaner luminaire attachment mechanism, improving installation efficiency and expanding Candela’s versatility across both new and existing infrastructure. Expanded color temperature options include PC Amber, 2200K, 2700K, 3000K, and 4000K to meet both aesthetic and environmental goals.

“Candela is a cornerstone of urban lighting design,” says Jordan Agustin, President of Lighting at Landscape Forms. “The re-engineered Candela respects that heritage while introducing feature enhancements that makes it more efficient, resilient and responsive to best design practices for the next generation of public spaces.”

The partnership between Landscape Forms and urbidermis reflects a shared commitment to creating meaningful public spaces that improve quality of life and enhance the urban experience. Together, they continue to illuminate public spaces with design that balances beauty, intelligence, and sustainability.
