DALTON, GA.—J+J Flooring has added a product category to their repertoire with the Positive Impact collection—the company’s first bio-based resilient offering. Manufactured largely from plant-based oils such as canola or castor and naturally occurring mineral components such as chalk (an ideal filler), Positive Impact is likely to leave a lasting influence on design not seen since the launch of Kinetex.
Similar to the release of Kinetex (also PVC-free and another sustainable option, made with 45 percent post-consumer recycled content) back in 2013, new sets of testing and production standards needed to be developed for this heterogeneous commercial-rated polyurethane collection.
When it comes to non-PVC resilient flooring options, the industry has dealt with dimensional instability and durability issues for years. Positive Impact handles both of those concerns with ease, thanks in part to the product’s top made up of a “decor and surface system” that provides superior wear and excellent scratch resistance. It is thermoset (poured and cured to solidify), and produced with no chlorine, plasticizers, solvents, harmful pollutants, or phthalates in a facility utilizing 100 percent green energy. Once solidified, the characteristics are set into the product.
This makes it a great fit for demanding, high-traffic areas where high elasticity is needed for ease on the ankles and great footfall sound absorption.
Positive Impact also does not disappoint on style. “The market has been asking for LVT alternatives, so it was a great opportunity to add this in after so many years of research,” said Marie Moore, Director of Design. Building off the aesthetic of J+J’s most popular LVT lines, Positive Impact comes in two patterns: the wood-inspired Response in eight natural color choices and 7.87 in. x 47.24 in. planks; stone-inspired Reaction in three colorways and 19.69 in x 39.37 in. tile. Both are available in 2.2 mm thickness and coordinate with all of J+J’s existing product categories.
The list of attributes goes on, including but not limited to:
- No finishing, waxing, buffing, or stripping;
- Cradle to Cradle Silver, Red List Free Declare, and FloorScore Certified;
- Contributes to LEED, Living Building Challenge and WELL;
- UV resistant;
- Odor neutral; and
- Scratch, indentation, wear, and stain resistant to some of the most stubborn chemicals.
