SAVUSAVU, FIJI—Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort, Fiji, one of the most renowned and environmentally friendly vacation destinations in the South Pacific, announces the debut of Jean-Michel Cousteau by Maricoid, a new eco-friendly guest amenity collection by famed ocean explorer, environmentalist, and filmmaker, Jean-Michel Cousteau. Inspired by the beauty and wonders of the oceans and reflecting Cousteau’s lifelong commitment to the environment, Jean-Michel Cousteau by Maricoid will be available in refillable bottles in the resort’s individual bures (Fijian style bungalows) as well as in the spa boutique for purchase.

“As an award-winning luxury eco-resort, we’re thrilled to begin offering Jean-Michel Cousteau’s line of sustainable amenities to our guests in their bures and to take home,” said Mark Slimmer, general manager of Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort, Fiji. “Environmental preservation and protection are already cornerstones of our resort culture—including marine reserves and restoration, sustainable design and operational practices, recycling of water and waste, and environmentally sound landscape and garden initiatives—so it is only natural to integrate these philosophies further into the guest experience.”

In 2011, Jean-Michel Cousteau partnered with Concept Amenities and Maricoid to introduce a carefully crafted environmental collection of bath and body care products for planet-savvy resort guests, including Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort, Fiji. Jean-Michel Cousteau by Maricoid is comprised of a comprehensive line of liquids, soaps, and accessories, including a nourishing shampoo, hydrating conditioner, soothing body lotion, and relaxing body wash, all softly complemented by fragrant notes of tropical coconut, apples, and sweet florals. The collection of paraben-free liquids and soaps are specially formulated with pure organic marine ingredients, including a 100 percent organic seaweed extract from pristine Tasmanian waters, by Marinova, an Australian biotechnology company. Further, all products are presented in biodegradable packaging with ocean-inspired artwork.

The Fijian people have flourished for more than 3,000 years by living off the natural bounty that surrounds them, and Jean-Michel Cousteau and his team of conservationists believe modern society can learn a lot about achieving a sustainable environment from the Fijians’ traditional agricultural and fishing practices. Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort requires sustainable fishing practices and does not permit reef fish or threatened species when selecting seafood for its dining menus. The resort’s landscaping features a large number of indigenous fruit trees, including mango, papaya, lemon, lime, guava, pineapple, passion fruit, breadfruit, and coconut, which are irrigated using recycled water from the resort’s wastewater treatment plant. Additionally, Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort is home to an extensive organic herb and vegetable garden that is meticulously cared for by the staff and provides the resort’s kitchen and bar with fresh produce for guests. The culinary garden also benefits from the composting of green kitchen waste.
