MINNEAPOLIS—Honeywell introduced EXCEL 5000 OpenViewNet, a secure network device that connects the EXCEL 5000 family of controllers to the Internet, delivering remote, Web-based monitoring and control of heating, ventilation and cooling (HVAC) systems.

“We’re bringing secure Web access to a legacy control system without forcing users to migrate to a new platform,” says Mike Taylor, vice president of Americas marketing, Honeywell Building Solutions. “With OpenViewNet, facility managers always have control of their EXCEL 5000 systems at their fingertips, saving time and increasing efficiency.”

OpenViewNet gives users quick access to building data via Internet Explorer or a Pocket PC-enabled mobile device using a simple, easy-to-navigate graphical interface. The interface provides a high-level system overview and also allows facility managers to drill down, visualize a specific piece of equipment—like an air-handling unit—gather information on its operation and make adjustments as necessary.

Users can optimize equipment runtime as well by viewing and modifying schedules online. And they can create custom displays with a built-in graphics editor and library. Alarms and e-mail alerts can be set up to automatically notify operators of abnormal conditions before they receive a complaint call, minimizing unnecessary maintenance and ensuring comfort of building occupants. OpenViewNet also allows managers to track overall system performance with trend charts they can export to a spreadsheet for easy analysis.

Users can add the network server to new or existing EXCEL 5000 systems; it includes configuration tools for fast and easy installation. In addition, OpenViewNet can be set up as a stand-alone system or integrated into Honeywell Enterprise Buildings Integrator, a management platform that ties core building functions together for simplified monitoring and control.

“The combination of Web access, ease of use and flexibility make OpenViewNet a compelling way to manage HVAC equipment performance,” Taylor says.
