ESTES PARK, COLO.—Holiday Inn Rocky Mountain Park Inn, a Forever Resort, was named by Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG) as the second highest ranking hotel of 854 Holiday Inn hotels across America in “Overall Satisfaction” by random guest surveys during the month of March 2008. In 2004 the Rocky Mountain Park Inn was the first hotel operation in the state of Colorado to be recognized by the EPA National Environmental Performance Track program and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment’s Gold Level Environmental Leadership Program for their outstanding environmental efforts for recycling and reduction of energy, water, waste and electric use.

The hotel’s Forever Earth program plus upgrades and renovations are evident to visitors throughout the facility and over the last three years improvements have totaled more than $834,000 dollars.

The team is led by Chris Cook, general manager, who took over the helm of the hotel in 2006 and whose previous role was food & beverage director. Since his move the hotel has made significant strides in customer service as well as maintaining the hotel’s dedication to environmental and customer excellence.

“We are excited to have achieved this recognition from our guests,” Cook said. “The hard work and dedicated, friendly staff are what sets us apart from other hotels. I am very proud of our staff for attaining such a high score and this recognition. It is nice to see our environmental efforts and the hard work of our team is creating a wonderful hotel environment for our guests.”

Organic, Sustainable Menu Options

The hotel’s food service operation, which provides culinary services to the Estes Park Conference Center and LongZ—A Mountain Grill, has revamped its menu to include items that are 40 percent organic and 90 percent sustainable cuisine. According to Cook, they are creating organic/all natural banquet menus which are currently custom created.

“Our response to environmental meetings with organic and all natural food products has been huge,” Cook said.

The hotel’s rooms received upgrades of new linens, soft touch towels, quilted duvets, pillow toppers, bed skirts, pillows, curved shower rods and curtains, showerheads, and pillow top mattresses. Further upgrades are scheduled for completion later this month including a facelift of the heated indoor pool area which will add new furniture, light fixtures, and paint.

New to the hotel are luxury bath amenities, a “pillow menu” with four pillow choices, new hotel-wide wireless Internet system, and eHost which offers the guests the ability to order room service online. Anticipated upgrades during 2008-2009 are 37” flat panel HDTV’s for each guestroom, new exterior signage, and a new whirlpool for the indoor pool area.
