Healthier Choice Adds Low-VOC Carpet Cushion, Underlayment Line

DALTON, GA.—Healthier Choice, a manufacturer of premium carpet cushion and acoustical underlayment, has introduced a new line of low-VOC commercial carpet cushions. The line, called Foundation Contract Carpet Cushion, has emissions nearly 50 times lower than the CRI Green Label limit.

Specifiers may be able to use Foundation to obtain credit with several environmental rating systems or programs, including LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification, based on the outstanding IAQ characteristics of the cushion. The official product launch is slated for May 10-12 at HD Expo 2007 in Las Vegas.

Foundation represents a new focus for Healthier Choice. According to the company’s president, Craig Poteet, “Our direction with Foundation is to provide solutions primarily to the hospitality market, offering premium commercial carpet cushion that addresses the needs of this segment including indoor air quality, maintenance, and carpet appearance.”

Improved Noise Control

Foundation Contract Carpet Cushion also achieves outstanding noise control, and the integral antimicrobial provides protection against mold and mildew to achieve a no-odor environment—even in the event of spills and moisture. Unlike the limitations of attached cushion carpet, Foundation adds outstanding flexibility in selection of carpet and cushion characteristics.

The four-product family is made from frothed polyurethane, each designed for different applications based on type and usage level. The individual products include Foundation SE, Foundation HT, Foundation XP, and Foundation RM. The products are designed to meet the needs of varying applications, from moderate to extra-heavy foot traffic and periodic to continuous rolling-wheel traffic. Healthier Choice also offers five grades of cushion for stretch-in or room applications, including ¼”, 5/16”, 3/8”, 7/16”, and ½” thicknesses.
