DES PLAINES, ILL.—Geberit North America announced that it has become a member of the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). USGBC encourages the adoption of sustainable building and provides a rating system for design, construction and operation of high-performance green buildings. Similar to Geberit’s purpose, USGBC promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability.

“Geberit’s focus on sustainability makes this an imperative,” said John Fitzgerald, Director of Marketing. “That commitment to sustainability, which runs throughout our products such as the dual flush in our wall-hung carriers, parallels with the USGBC’s commitment. We realize that the plumbing industry especially is concerned with water conservation, and needs strong members such as Geberit North America.”

In addition to becoming an active member of USGBC, the company plans to cooperate with interior designers, architects and contractors to get the message to corporations that plumbing systems can save water. Fitzgerald emphasized that the company will be reaching out to plumbers in particular to educate them on the benefits of their “technology enabling design” concepts.

Geberit North America is part of the Geberit Group, a European market leader and global provider of sanitary technology. Located in Des Plaines, Ill., Geberit North America markets concealed installation systems for wall-hung toilets, as well as bath waste and overflows. Geberit concealed installation system technology enables designers to create unique spaces by lifting the toilet off the floor and allowing greater flexibility of placement in the bathroom.
