TOLEDO, BELIZE—Outpost International celebrated the grand opening of Machaca Hill Lodge at Laughing Falcon Reserve, their first world-class eco-development, on April 14. The eco-chic lodge is nestled amidst the lush landscape of the Toledo District in Southern Belize, idealistically situated on a private 11,000-acre reserve that is home to many of Belize’s jaguars, and is bordered by densely forested limestone hills and the Rio Grande River.

From the rainforest canopy just beneath the plateau summit of Machaca Hill, the lodge offers an awe-inspiring look at the jungle and in the distance Seven Hills and the Caribbean Sea. The airy main building welcomes guests into an elegant lobby with open verandas on two levels, a reception area, bar, gift shop and activities desk. The restaurant, on the top floor of the lodge, provides guests with an expansive view and a world-class menu that showcases a balanced mixture of fresh seafood and regional cuisine with many locally grown ingredients.

Terraced along the hillside surrounding the lodge, Machaca Hill has 12 spacious cabanas tucked into the surrounding lush rainforest. Ten deluxe cabanas feature two queen-size beds, a sitting area and private bath adorned with handmade ceramic tile, as well as a secluded veranda. A luxury suite sits at the end of a winding path and has plush modern décor, two queen-size beds, a large bathroom and spectacular views. Hidden in the intimate hillside setting is a spacious honeymoon suite that showcases luxurious décor and romantic four poster king-size bed. Adding a surprising element to the remote jungle setting, the modern lodge offers wireless internet throughout all of the cabanas and main areas for the convenience of all visitors.

Guests can choose from an array of activities and adventures. The lodge offers numerous on-site opportunities for active guests, including miles of nature trails for birding and hiking, canoeing the river and tours through the flower and fruit farm. Additionally, guests can schedule specially tailored tours and excursions off the Laughing Falcon Reserve to experience local attractions. Nearby, the intricately constructed Maya temples of Lubaantun and Nim Li Punit highlight the existence of the ancient Maya, while a variety of caves, rivers and waterfalls lie scattered beneath the forest canopy.
