SAN JUAN, PR—Discover Puerto Rico has launched “Keep the Island Singing,” a new water stewardship initiative designed to raise awareness and provide travelers with practical guidance to help conserve water and care for the island during their visit.

Through a dedicated online resource, social media content and tools for local tourism partners, Keep the Island Singing aims to make water stewardship a shared responsibility by providing visitors with simple, actionable ways to use water thoughtfully while experiencing Puerto Rico.

The initiative takes inspiration from Puerto Rico’s iconic coquí, whose unmistakable song is deeply connected to the Island’s identity and natural environment. Keep the Island Singing encourages visitors to play their part in caring for the water and natural resources that sustain Puerto Rico and all its inhabitants.

“Visitors have always played an important role in Puerto Rico’s story, and with that comes a shared responsibility to care for the island we all love,” said Jorge L. Pérez, CEO of Discover Puerto Rico. “Keep the Island Singing ensures that travelers have clear information and practical ways to conserve water and serve as thoughtful stewards of our natural resources while enjoying all that Puerto Rico has to offer.”

Making Water Stewardship Part of the Journey

At the center of the initiative is the Keep the Island Singing resource page, which will serve as a centralized destination for travelers seeking the latest information, water conservation guidance, and links to official resources. Discover Puerto Rico will continue to update the page as conditions evolve, helping travelers access timely information before and during their visit.

The initiative will also extend across Discover Puerto Rico’s social channels, using approachable, educational content to raise awareness of water stewardship and encourage visitors to incorporate conservation into their everyday actions while on the island.

Travelers will be encouraged to take simple steps that can collectively make a difference, including:

  • Take short showers instead of baths.
  • Turn off the tap while brushing your teeth.
  • Reuse towels when practical.
  • Thaw food in the refrigerator rather than under running water.
  • Avoid watering lawns or gardens during dry conditions.
  • Skip washing cars when water conservation measures are needed.

Resources & Support

Discover Puerto Rico will also provide local tourism and hospitality partners with a water stewardship toolkit featuring guidance and resources they can use to reinforce conservation practices and amplify the initiative with their guests and audiences. By equipping partners across the island with consistent information and messaging, the initiative aims to extend water stewardship throughout the visitor experience.

Discover Puerto Rico remains committed to providing travelers and partners with clear, actionable and responsible information and coordinating with local government, authorities and industry partners as drought mitigation efforts continue.
