LAS VEGAS—ChopValue-Las Vegas, a leading manufacturer of sustainable products utilizing the circular economy model, announced it has collected and recycled more than 7.5 million chopsticks from the Las Vegas area during its first eight months of operation.
ChopValue-Las Vegas launched the first U.S. microfactory of its kind last summer, with a goal of giving single-use chopsticks a second life; diverting what was once “wooded waste,” into sustainable products and custom solutions for the home and office. All the while, keeping tons of waste out of the Las Vegas landfills.
“Alongside our 100 Asian restaurant partners in Las Vegas, we are doing our part to be part of the solution. Our shared goal is to minimize our carbon footprint and make Las Vegas known for environmental sustainability efforts,” said Brooks Smith, Owner/CEO of ChopValue-Las Vegas.
Citywide Asian/Fusion restaurants, located throughout all areas of Las Vegas, partner with ChopValue by posting CV bins at participating restaurants. Restaurant employees toss the used chopsticks into the bin, which is collected weekly by ChopValue. From there, the chopsticks are transported to the microfactory (located at Warm Springs Road and Paradise) where each undergoes a rigorous preparation process; a multi-step proprietary sanitation and heating method takes place—formulating pressed wooden tiles. These tiles are converted into tables, housewares, serving boards, coasters, cell phone holders, wooden art, window coverings and more—giving a second life to used chopsticks and creating high-performance office furniture, home decor, kitchen accessories, games and wall décor.
Several nationally recognized companies are already using ChopValue products including San Manuel Band of Mission Indians, Palms Resort Casino, MGM Grand Hotel & Casino, LGA Architects, LAX airport “I love LA” and more. Chop Value Las Vegas can be seen at various outdoor Farmer’s Markets, LV Craft Shows, tradeshows and outdoor festivals. You can reach Chop Value at lasvegas@chopvalue.com.
