SAN DIEGO—Bekaert Specialty Films LLC announced it has earned ISO 14001:2004 certification, solidifying its commitment to minimizing the manufacturing impact of its energy saving window films, sold under the Solar Gard, Panorama and Quantum brands. ISO 14001 is an international standard for environmental management systems. Its goal is to reduce the ecological footprint of a business and decrease pollution and waste.
To achieve this voluntary certification, Bekaert Specialty Films established an environmental management system (EMS) to ensure the company’s activities and products have minimal impact on the environment. Bekaert Specialty Films’ EMS helps monitor and improve energy efficiency, resource conservation, waste management and chemical control. Additionally the EMS aims to:
• Reduce the environmental impact of BSF’s manufacturing operations;
• Improve the work environment and create cross-functional teams that foster awareness, understanding and responsibility across the organization; and
• Enhance relations with the community, regulators and stakeholders.

Independent analyses show that window film can help organizations reduce energy expenditures by up to 30 percent. Recognized by the Department of Energy as an energy saving solution, window film reduces the load HVAC systems have to manage and helps save electricity. Through the Solar Gard Energy Toolbox, facility managers can receive customized energy analyses and quantify the value of professional window film installation.
In addition to its ISO 14001:2004 certification, Bekaert Specialty Films has also been recognized as a Climate Action Leader by the California Climate Action Registry, and was the first specialized film manufacturer to certify and publish its carbon footprint. Solar Gard window film has been endorsed by the Clinton Climate Initiative and both Solar Gard and Panorama window films are recognized for their role in reducing energy consumption in commercial properties and residential homes worldwide.
