As just posted on Green Lodging News, Sage Hospitality Group has just released its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Report. For those of you not familiar with Sage, the Denver-based company operates a portfolio of more than 120 hotels, restaurants, bars, coffee shops, and entertainment venues in 16 states and the District of Columbia.

Green Lodging News has reported on Sage in the past. For example, this spring BioGreen360, a leading innovator in distributed food waste management solutions, partnered with Sage Hospitality Group to develop a closed-loop program to divert 100 percent of their hotels’ food waste from landfill with the residual material being integrated into an array of all-natural compost and fertilizer products. The companies have agreed to roll out the BioGreen360 circular solution to food waste in a phased approach across Sage Hospitality Group’s portfolio of hotels.

Here are a few things that jumped out at me from Sage’s report:

  • Sage’s goal is to reduce its carbon footprint by 60 percent by 2030.
  • A 2024 goal is to have 30 percent utilization of sustainable practices in securing goods across the portfolio.
  • By the end of 2024 the company will have EV charging stations at all its properties.
  • All properties will be using solely LED bulbs by the end of 2024.
  • All Sage properties will be partnered with Clean the World by year-end 2024.
  • In 2022 Sage launched a new initiative in partnership with Metro State University available to Sage associates across the U.S. The program directly supports the ongoing personal and professional development of those in the Sage family who come from diverse backgrounds. Cohorts will take virtual classes together centering around industry topics to further their development and make them candidates for career advancement within Sage.
  • Since its origin in 2016, Sage, through its Hungry to Help program, has raised over $200,000 for partner charities.
Sage has pledged to give $400,000 in donations from March 2023 to March 2024, representing $10,000 for each of the 40 years the company has been in business.
  • In a unique public/private partnership, MSU Denver and Sage Hospitality have built an on-campus, full-service, learning laboratory—the Hotel and Hospitality Learning Center, which launched in 2013. Located right on campus, the center includes The SpringHill Suites Denver Downtown by Marriott International, a fully functioning, professionally managed hotel with 150 rooms and 5,000 square feet of meeting space, where students receive hands on experience.
