NEW YORK—Designtex, a Steelcase company, announced its Surface Imaging facility in Portland, Maine, has been recertified by the Sustainable Green Printing Partnership (SGP), a nonprofit organization providing sustainability certification in the graphic communications industry. SGP recertification demonstrates Designtex’s continued commitment to sustainable practices throughout its organization.

“Commitment to sustainability and maintaining sustainable manufacturing operations is continuous,” says Marci Kinter, chair, Sustainable Green Printing Partnership Program. “We are pleased that Designtex’s facility in Portland, Maine has once again stepped up and recertified under the SGP banner. Recertification sends a strong message that sustainable business practices remain an integral part of Designtex’s philosophy.”

Designtex’s Surface Imaging facility was one of the first large format printers to be certified by the Sustainable Green Printing Partnership in 2009. Last week, Designtex received its first SGP recertification for the 26,000 square foot Surface Imaging facility, which harnesses digital imaging technology to enhance environments for clients in the corporate, hospitality, retail, educational and healthcare markets.

SGP is the most rigorous and comprehensive multi-attribute sustainable certification within the printing industry. Recertification by SGP, which takes place every two years, requires printers to establish and meet measurable goals through continued improvement practices. Designtex will continue to uphold its commitment to environmental practices through SGP’s criteria of sustainability management, waste reduction and energy efficiency.

“The continuous improvement plan that secured our recent recertification will further Designtex’s carbon neutral operation and demonstrates our steadfast commitment to lifecycle thinking throughout our operations and products,” says Carol Derby, Designtex’s director of Environmental Strategy. We will continue to work closely with SGP, and lead by example in the industry.”
