HONG KONG—In recognition of Shangri-La Asia Limited’s corporate sustainability leadership, the company has been listed in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI). It is the only hotel group to be included in the index component within Asia Pacific and it is the first time Shangri-La has been made a constituent.

Launched in 1999, the DJSI track the financial performance of leading sustainability-driven companies worldwide. The annual DJSI, compiled by Dow Jones and RobecoSAM Group, assess a company’s corporate sustainability performance from the economic, environmental and social development aspects. This year, DJSI reviewed 2,500 companies around the world and 333 companies including Shangri-La were selected to the DJSI world Index. Selections were made based on a best-in-class approach and Shangri-La’s consistent inclusion in the Hang Seng Corporate Sustainability Index in Hong Kong since 2011 has affirmed its environmental, social responsibility and corporate governance performance.

Shangri-La owns and/or operates hotels and resorts across Asia Pacific, Europe, North America and the Middle East. The company is committed to operating in an economically, socially and environmentally responsible manner while balancing the interests of diverse stakeholders.

CSR Committee Drives Efforts

In striving to be a leader in corporate citizenship and sustainable development, a corporate-level CSR Committee drives the company’s initiatives in the strategic areas of stakeholder relations, environment, health and safety, supply chain and employees.

The same structure is held at every hotel to ensure that sustainability is integrated into the daily operations as well as slowly adding value to overall guest awareness and experience.

Sustainability, Shangri-La’s social responsibility campaign, provides the framework for the Company’s CSR initiatives. Two flagship projects have been launched since 2009. Embrace, Shangri-La’s Care for People Project, aims to promote the highest level of education and health support in underprivileged communities. Sanctuary, Shangri-La’s Care for Nature Project, promotes the conservation and restoration of biodiversity in key destinations.
