LH, Pineapple Hospitality Finalize Agenda for Green Conference

DALLAS—Lodging Hospitality Magazine and Pineapple Hospitality have finalized the agenda for their first Green Hospitality Conference. The event will be held on March 14 at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas. The conference will precede Lodging Hospitality’s annual Hospitality Operations & Technology event.

The day-long event will begin with an introduction and welcome from Gary Dietz, publisher of Lodging Hospitality, and Glenn Hasek, publisher and editor of Green Lodging News. From 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m., Ed Watkins, editor of Lodging Hospitality, will moderate a “Green Hospitality—Past, Present, Future” session that will include the following participants: Wen Chang, founder and President of Atman Hospitality Group; Nicholas Lakas, Director, Element Hotels; Deirdre Wallace, President, The Ambrose Group; and Michelle White, Director of Environmental Affairs, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts.

From 11:20 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Jeff Slye, founder of Business Evolution Consulting, will moderate a “Design and Construction” panel that includes the following participants: Yuen Chang, Gaia Napa Valley Hotel & Spa; Gerry Link, General Manager, Hilton Vancouver Washington; Liko Smith, President and CEO, Rogue Hospitality; Philip Schrieber, Senior Sales Engineer, Plumbing Americas, Kohler Co.; and Patricia Miller, Vice President Hospitality, Leo A. Daly.

Interface Consultant is Luncheon Speaker

The luncheon speaker for the event will be David Oakey. He is the founder of David Oakey Designs and a consultant to Interface. A leader in sustainable design, Oakey was inspired by his mentor, Janine Benyus, author of the book, Biomimicry. The book focuses on learning how to solve problems in design, business and life from nature. In his presentation, Oakey will outline a design process that links inspiration and design.

From 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., Glenn Hasek will moderate a “Green Power Alternatives” panel that includes the following panelists: Natalie Marquis, General Manager, Habitat Suites Hotel; Steve Vissotzky, General Manager, Hyatt Regency Dallas; Scott Hart, President of Commercial Services, Green Mountain Energy; and Patrick Kelly, EPA Energy Star program.

From 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., there will be four roundtable discussions. They will include: “Green Housekeeping,” led by Jeff Slye; “Energy Efficiency & Water Conservation,” led by Marshall Williams, Manager Corporate Accounts Worldwide, Kohler Co.; “Waste Reduction & Recycling,” led by Matthew Moore, Director of Rooms, Seaport Hotel; and “Indoor Air Quality—Air Wars,” led by Lonnie Funk, President, Rolling Oaks Hospitality.

The closing session, an All Star Think Tank Panel, will be moderated by Ray Burger, president, Pineapple Hospitality. Participants will include Jeff Slye, Lonnie Funk and Matthew Moore. The conference will wrap up with a cocktail reception from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
