SAN FRANCISCO—Hilton San Francisco Financial District, ParkPod, LLC, and Ace Parking announced the successful installation of San Francisco’s first high speed electric vehicle charging station (Level II) open to the public at a non-government location. Beginning immediately, electric vehicle owners will be able to charge at Hilton San Francisco Financial District Hotel at 750 Kearny Street.

Until now, most charging stations have been publicly financed and installed at government-owned locations. Rainer Genschel, ParkPod’s co-CEO, said, “The first high speed installation at a commercial location is particularly significant because, above all, charging has to be convenient. ParkPod’s aim is to make sure that charging stations are located where drivers already do business: where they shop, eat, relax, and sleep.”

ParkPod, LLC, a maker of electric vehicle charging systems based in San Francisco and Germany, focuses on creating real business value from electric vehicle charging. While emphasizing the environmental benefits of electric vehicles, ParkPod primarily allows parking hosts—hotels, retailers, commercial real estate owners—to capitalize on the opportunity to provide car charging to their customers. The company’s designs allow companies to choose a look that works for their customers, and a software platform easily integrates with companies’ existing systems, rather than expecting drivers to buy third-party subscriptions.

New Electric Vehicles Coming Soon

Hilton San Francisco Financial District and Ace Parking are preparing for the consumer demand that will accompany the release of new electric vehicle models from manufacturers like GM and Nissan. Genschel continued, “Hilton Hotels and Ace Parking understand the market changes that are coming and have responded positively. A lot of businesses are poised to invest in EV infrastructure, but Hilton and Ace are pioneers here in San Francisco—an epicenter of the American electric vehicle industry.”

“As a green hotel, hosting the city’s first commercial location level II charger is an honor, and an added value to our guests,” said Kevin O’Brien, general manager, Hilton San Francisco Financial District. “We are proud to partner with ParkPod, and look forward to watching the electric vehicle community grow.”

“Ace Parking is extremely excited to partner with ParkPod,” said Matt Griesheimer, Ace Parking’s vice president. “This system helps us to further our commitment to going green and offer the same technology and opportunity to our parkers.”
