SOUTHLAKE, TEXAS—As part of its Travel for Good program, Travelocity announced the launch of a sustainable travel microsite on its own website. Travel for Good is Travelocity’s program that encourages sustainable travel. On the new microsite, customers can find information about the Green Hotel Directory, the carbon offset program, and volunteer vacations.
The Green Hotel Directory boasts more than 700 eco-friendly hotels from around the world. Plus, Travelocity is the only major online travel company that flags green hotels within the general shopping path. This means that customers can easily spot green hotels at a glance—and even compare prices between green and non-green hotels.
Travelocity also gives travelers the option of offsetting the carbon emissions of their trips through a relationship with The Conservation Fund. To date, the carbon offset program has helped The Conservation Fund plant more than 21,000 trees across three national wildlife refuges that will trap an estimated 23,000 metric tons of CO2 over the life of those forests.
Travel for Good doesn’t just provide travelers with greener travel options. It also encourages them to give back during their vacations with voluntourism. The program has teamed up with some of the top volunteer vacation organizations in the country, including Cross-Cultural Solutions, Earthwatch Institute, Globe Aware, and the American Hiking Society. Plus, each quarter Travel for Good awards two $5,000 Change Ambassadors Grants to deserving travelers who have demonstrated long-term commitments to service. These volunteers make a difference around the world with their own hands and spread the company’s message of preserving cherished destinations for generations to come.
