ORLANDO—INNCOM International recently unveiled a new Radio Frequency (RF) Tabletop/Bedside Controller as part of its Integrated Room Automation System (IRAS) that is completely customizable. It is a multi-purpose device that features customizable touchscreen guest control of room temperature, lighting, drapes and alarm clock. The Internet-enabled TBL-80LCD can also display guest services information and online communications, automated CRM information delivery and easy staff reporting functions. INNCOM’s Privacy/Make-up Room, its patented ecoMODE, and in room/outdoor temperature also are part of the branded and customized display.

INNCOM debuted its TBL-80LCD at the Hospitality Industry Technology Exposition & Conference (HITEC). Also on display was MODEVA, INNCOM’s next generation of guestroom controls that takes its popular “Glass Series” to new levels. With a modular design, the guest-facing device boasts heightened functionality and customization to accommodate new construction and retrofit hotel projects with equal ease, and the solution’s artistic look and feel can meet nearly any design requirements conceived for the hotel guestroom.

“Our customers have pushed us to deliver products and systems that give guests memorable, positive experiences without confusing technology,” said Rick Quirino, INNCOM president and chief operating officer. “Since we introduced the INNCOM Wireless Digital Assistant at HITEC 2008, we’ve been inundated with requests from customers in the luxury segment to integrate even more controls into our IRAS family. There may be other touchscreen tabletop or bedside control units, but only INNCOM has the technology to put everything a guest needs in the room—including the Internet—at their fingertips.”

User-friendly System

“We believe that guests will appreciate experiencing this leading-edge technology,” he said. “The touchscreen provides an unparalleled level of control over a variety of guestroom devices. A light touch on any of the functions displayed on the screen will provide an instant response from the controlled device, as well as the feedback displayed on the TBL-80LCD.”

Ryan Gardner, INNCOM director of Product Development, explained that while the TBL-80LCD was initially developed for the luxury segment, the system’s RF platform makes it affordable for other hotel types. And, because the system is wireless and uses low voltage, it is very energy efficient and eco-friendly, supporting many branded and independent “green” programs.

“INNCOM has designed the new INNCOM TBL-80LCD to provide the ultimate in guest convenience and hotel branding support,” Gardner said. “Each hotel or brand can determine what information or in-room systems the unit will control, right down to the look of the unit and how the information is presented. Management can keep the guest interface very simple or make it present much more comprehensive user transactions. It can also integrate the unit with hospitality guest-interface software platforms from selected providers.”

MODEVA, Next Generation Room Controls

Also making its debut at HITEC was a new, advanced room interface device called MODEVA, developed to bring design flexibility by using a “system in a box” approach to guestroom controls. The system provides endless control features and options that interoperate seamlessly with INNCOM’s IRAS for energy management and lighting control platform.

“When INNCOM first introduced the Glass Series User Interfaces in 2008, we elevated the look, feel and customization of guest-facing room devices to a different level,” Quirino said. “The opportunity to have room devices that either blended with the décor or were so distinctive they became accent pieces in the room offered designers a whole new way to think about light switches and thermostats.”

MODEVA consists of customizable user interfaces, low and line voltage interfaces, wired and wireless communications, dimmers, and wall box switches designed to operate within INNCOM’s Integrated Room Automation System (IRAS). MODEVA brings all guestroom control features into a sleekly designed system housed in either a capacitive glass or a more traditional keypad user interface.

The MODEVA switch itself contains all of the hardware components (including logic operations, radio communications, and user interface functionality) to operate as a low voltage controls interface within a thin assembly that rests outside of the wall box cavity. This brings an advantage to the MODEVA system by allowing it to be decoupled safely from the line power switching and dimming performed by the system’s load assemblies.
