PEARL RIVER, N.Y.—Now in its 64th year, the Good Design Awards, one of the world’s oldest and most recognized programs for identifying design excellence worldwide, announced its 2014 winners. Hunter Douglas, a leader in custom window fashions, received design excellence awards for its Silhouette A Deux window shadings, Solera Soft Shades and the Platinum App for motorized shades. Hunter Douglas was the only window covering manufacturer to be recognized.

The award sponsors, The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design in Galena, Ill. and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies in Dublin, Ireland, received submissions from several thousand of the world’s leading manufacturers and industrial and graphic design firms from across the globe.

“We’re proud to be acknowledged by such a highly regarded design competition,” said Marv Hopkins, Hunter Douglas Chairman and CEO. “This affirms the Hunter Douglas commitment to ongoing design innovation, bringing to market both entirely new categories of window fashions and operating systems, and significant style enhancements to existing collections.”

Silhouette A Deux Shadings

Winner Silhouette A Deux shadings combine a soft, sheer Silhouette shading, already renowned for its distinctive light diffusing benefit, with a room-darkening roller shade in a single headrail, yet with independent operation for more variable light control and privacy options.

Also honored, Solera Soft Shades bring an entirely new aesthetic to the market by combining a soft, sculpted look with added dimension and a unique cellular construction. The cellular shape allows for increased energy efficiency, and the color continues inside each cell to give the shades added depth and richness.

Third up, the Hunter Douglas Platinum App makes precise motorized shade control directly from a mobile device simple.

All award winners will be posted on the Museum’s website at www.chi-athenaeum.org and exhibited this year with details forthcoming.
