MORAVIA, IOWAGreen Key Global, an international environmental certification body, has recognized Iowa’s Honey Creek Resort with its “4 Green Keys” Eco-Rating for the resort’s accomplishments in environmental management and corporate social responsibility.

According to Green Key Global, the rating means that Honey Creek Resort “has shown national industry leadership and commitment to protecting the environment through wide-ranging policies and practices. The hotel has mature programs in place that involve management, employees, guests, and the public, and which have shown substantial and measurable results.”

Among Honey Creek Resort’s many notable environmental accomplishments are a net-zero energy Activities Building, an Audubon-certified golf course and daily naturalist programs for both guests and the public. Less than 40 percent of hotels participating in the Green Key Eco-Rating Program receive ratings of four or higher.

Honey Creek Resort is owned by Iowa’s Department of Natural Resources and operated by global food service and hospitality company Delaware North. Honey Creek Resort’s environmental sustainability programs are aligned with Delaware North’s acclaimed proprietary environmental management system, GreenPath.

Aiming Toward Continuous Improvement

“Delaware North values being entrusted to run Honey Creek Resort, and we make sure to go the extra mile to help maintain it for generations to come,” said Deb Freidel, Delaware North’s Director of Sustainability. “We look forward to the ongoing assessment and implementation of best practices set forth by Green Key Global, as well as our own GreenPath program, to continuously improve our environmental program here.”

Green Key Global’s rating assessment focuses on five operational areas: Corporate Environmental Management, Housekeeping, Conference & Meeting Services, Food & Beverage Services and Engineering & Maintenance.

“Delaware North is committed to doing our part to minimize our environmental footprint, while maximizing opportunities to educate our guests on important environmental and cultural initiatives,” said Walt Kochansky, General Manager of Honey Creek Resort. “Every department at Honey Creek Resort has played an integral role in championing this cause, and I’m proud that we have been recognized by Green Key Global for our ongoing efforts.”
