DUSSELDORF, GERMANY—GROHE, a leading bathroom fittings manufacturer, recently teamed up with the Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group to organize a shared workshop at their headquarters in Dusseldorf. For the first time partners from the fields of hospitality, hotel technology, architecture and design met to examine how water is used holistically in the hotel industry.
The workshop looked at the challenges of water sustainability, current and future innovative technology solutions and, above all, ways to enrich the guest experience while minimizing the water footprint of the products and services offered. Discussions focused on three main areas: design for sustainability in new builds, retrofitting to optimize existing property, and changing behavior and consumer expectations
“We are eager to share our insights with our trusted partners and to exchange ideas on water usage in the hotel industry with other respected experts,” said Michael Rauterkus, CSO at Grohe AG. “There are numerous new technologies which contribute to sustainability and cost reduction while offering guests the most enjoyable water experience. After a day of exploring this complex subject, we agreed that it is vital to celebrate water and to work together to put water sustainability center stage.”
In a next step, Carlson Rezidor, GROHE and their partners will establish a “Water Task Force, which will audit selected hotels with a view to minimizing their water consumption while at the same time maximizing guest comfort. In doing so, the task force will look at all elements—from room and building design to bathroom fixtures, kitchens, pumps and maintenance.
