EcoDomo collects used leather belts from Goodwill stores in New York, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C., as well as from collectors before sorting, processing, and adhering them onto panels with their group of artisans.
The creative journey has led to amazing discoveries. For examples, Mr. Alan was a Nazi forced-labor camp survivor who collected leather belts all his life. Forced to work during World War II in the excavation of tunnels for the production of V2 rockets with his bare hands, he designed special hand protection using dead workers’ belts which he traded for food during his years as forced labor. “People would die of gangrene, you see, and this tool made from belts saved my life and many others because it secretly protected our hands….this is why I collected leather belts all my life,” Mr. Alan said.
The Phoenix Collection has been used in corporate offices, showrooms, and in hospitality applications. They create a unique impression and a clear message of commitment to reusing materials by designers and the occupants of a space.
