SINGAPORE—Carlson Hotels, one of the world’s leading hotel companies, and EC3 Global, a certifier of sustainable travel and tourism operators, announced a partnership through which Carlson Hotels will establish EarthCheck Program certification for the majority of Carlson hotels in Asia Pacific this year.

“Environmental sustainability is part of our corporate commitment to responsible business,” said Jean-Marc Busato, managing director, Asia Pacific, for Carlson Hotels. “While some of our hotels have already embarked on the EarthCheck Program, plans are well underway to ensure that nearly all our hotels become third-party certified by the end of this year, and that as a group, we take proactive measures to minimize our carbon footprint.”

Carlson Hotels brands include: Radisson, Country Inns & Suites By Carlson, Park Inn, Park Plaza and Regent. The company is focusing on issues such as reducing, recycling and reusing solid waste; reducing the use of harmful chemicals; conserving energy and water, and improving indoor air quality, all of which have an immediate impact on the environment and the communities where Carlson hotels operate.

Credible, Well Established Program

“At Carlson Hotels in Asia Pacific, the desire was to partner with a top sustainable travel program that was not only credible and well established internationally, but one that would also help raise awareness and action among staff and guests,” Busato added. “With an increasing number of guests giving priority to eco-friendly travel, the EarthCheck Program also presents us with another avenue to strengthen customer loyalty.”

In response to concerns over climate change, EC3 Global went to market with the launch of the EarthCheck Program in February 2010. EarthCheck uses advanced certification and benchmarking solutions. The program offers a new level of accuracy and transparency with certification verified by independent auditors.

“Having already certified and benchmarked more than 1,000 organizations in more than 60 countries, EC3 Global is highly regarded for its science-based approach,” explained Stewart Moore, CEO of EC3 Global. “EarthCheck provides a framework for businesses to increase their operational efficiencies, maximize the benefit of corporate social responsibility initiatives, and minimize environmental impacts.”
