SAN FRANCISCO—TerraPass, a leading carbon offset provider, has launched a new online carbon calculator. By developing a deeper understanding for carbon methodology and creating more options for calculation, now both individuals and businesses of all types and sizes can obtain a carbon footprint reading with a few simple inputs of information.

“TerraPass is committed to boosting awareness around sustainability by educating people,” says Christopher Duzich, Vice President of TerraPass. “To do that, we provide easy-to-use tools that help individuals and businesses build a better future for all of us. This new calculator empowers you with both the knowledge and opportunity to make a difference today. Use our new calculator and take control of your carbon footprint by making daily decisions that will reduce your impact on the environment.”

Conferring with like-minded experts in the field, the new calculator includes many new features. TerraPass gathered information from several expert sources (Environmental Protection Agency, fueleconomy.gov, Department of Energy, just to name a few) and combined it with the most recent carbon intensity coefficients available from The Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol), the most widely used international accounting tool. With these resources TerraPass was able to take more carbon intensive activities into account, making it easier for customers to get a better view of their carbon footprint. The TerraPass Carbon Calculator specifically targets three main groups—the individual, businesses (large and small) and conferences and events (corporate and personal). Some of the key highlights include:

•    Simple navigation with new easy-to-understand inputs for a more comprehensive carbon footprint.
•    Calculate all or select portions of your footprint: Home Energy Use, Vehicles, Public Transportation, and Air Travel; or calculate the emissions associated with your Business Operations or Events.
•    Compare your carbon footprint to the U.S. National Average.
•    Various payment options to balance your footprint by supporting emission reductions and renewable energy: monthly subscriptions or one-time purchases for each area of your footprint.
•    Ability to embed the carbon calculator into other websites, so business partners can offer their customers a chance to calculate their footprint right then and there. Businesses can choose which portions of the calculator to embed depending on their customers’ needs.
