NEW YORK—The Hospitality Sustainable Purchasing Consortium announced that Ramsey Purchasing has joined the Consortium as a Contributing Member. Ramsey’s membership furthers the Consortium’s goals of establishing the Hospitality Sustainable Purchasing Index (HSP Index) as the de facto performance measurement solution for industry suppliers.

With more than 4.5 million hotel rooms in the United States, FF&E is a major investment for all hotels, brands and owners—and it has a substantial impact on the guest experience and the environmental footprint of a hotel.

“The HSP Index enables us to compare the sustainability performance of suppliers and the products they sell, so we in turn can help owners furnish hotels in ways that lower their environmental impact and improve the guest experience,” said Jennifer Ramsey, president of San Francisco-based Ramsey Purchasing. “We are looking forward to working with other industry leaders, via the Consortium, to establish the performance criteria that helps make sustainability a central and indispensable part of the FF&E purchasing process, now and in the future.”

Consortium Up to 26 Members

Twenty-six organizations are now part of the Consortium, including more than a dozen industry-leading suppliers, major brands, architects, designers, purchasing firms, and sustainability consultants.

The Hospitality Sustainable Purchasing Consortium (HSPC), created and led by MindClick SGM, is a collaborative organization to help hotel owners purchase products that both reduce their properties’ environmental impact, and contribute to guest comfort, health and well-being.

Ramsey Purchasing, along with other Consortium members, will help establish the performance criteria for the HSP Index including measures of corporate social responsibility, environmental and product sustainability. Product categories covered include furnishings, fixtures and equipment (FF&E), and operating supplies and equipment (OS&E).

“We are excited to have Ramsey Purchasing as part of the Consortium,” said JoAnna Abrams, CEO of MindClick SGM. “Purchasing firms are an integral part of ensuring cost effective, sustainable solutions that address operational and guest experience needs. Like other leaders in the industry, Ramsey is contributing to the push to balance cost, quality and sustainability. We look forward to their contribution in shaping the HSP Index.”
