SOUTH PLAINFIELD, N.J.—Hersha Hospitality Trust has selected AspirEnergy, a New Jersey-based Energy Services Company, to implement energy efficient solutions across its portfolio of hotels.

Hersha’s partnership with AspirEnergy to implement LED lighting throughout its hotels demonstrates Hersha’s continued dedication to its EarthView program. This initiative will contribute to Hersha’s triple bottom line approach to sustainable hospitality, reducing the company’s carbon footprint by more than 3,000 tons and saving an estimated $1.25 million in energy, maintenance and HVAC costs in the first year of implementation.

LED lighting will be implemented across Hersha’s portfolio, which currently consists of hotel properties located in Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Miami and the West Coast. Hersha’s portfolio is a mix of independent and branded properties with affiliations such as Marriott International, Hilton Hotels, Starwood Hotels, Hyatt Hotels and InterContinental Hotel Group.

“We are excited to partner with Hersha as our company philosophy aligns with Hersha’s EarthView program, philosophy, approach and strategy,” says Rishi Shah, co-founder and one of AspirEnergy’s Managing Members. “This partnership highlights that others can implement portfolio-wide, energy-efficient solutions with both ease and effectiveness with partners like us.”

AspirEnergy coordinated the LED retrofit for 30 of Hersha’s hotels across eight states along the East Coast of the United States over the last six months with additional retrofits scheduled for the remainder of 2015.
