SAN DIEGO—Leading MRO provider HD Supply Facilities Maintenance and Greystar Real Estate Partners announced the launch of a new program to promote sustainability and help the environment by planting thousands of trees.

HD Supply Facilities Maintenance, a leading supplier of maintenance, repair and operations (MRO) products to the multifamily industry teamed with Greystar, the largest operator of apartments in the United States, to design the program to encourage communities to consolidate multiple small orders through a more efficient process of ordering and delivering maintenance supplies.

“HD Supply Facilities Maintenance is committed to reducing our impact on the environment and providing our customers with solutions to help save money and resources and meet their sustainability goals,” said Evan Matzen, sustainability manager for HD Supply Facilities Maintenance. “Greystar’s commitment to sustainability and their openness to new ideas helped turn our vision for this program into a reality.”

Larger Orders Result in Greater Efficiency

“This innovative program is designed to encourage communities to meet a minimum order size for its maintenance products throughout the year.” said Matzen. “Increasing order size allows HD Supply Facilities Maintenance to make fewer deliveries, consolidate packaging, increase efficiencies and reduce fuel consumption and emissions. Overall this reduces the environmental impact of regular business operations. This, in turn, helps communities lower labor and receiving costs.”

Working with the Arbor Day Foundation, HD Supply Facilities Maintenance will donate trees each time a Greystar order meets the minimum size threshold. HD Supply Facilities Maintenance anticipates planting at least 7,500 new trees during the first 12 months of the program.

“As part of our commitment to sustainability, Greystar is constantly exploring simple ways for our communities to make more environmentally friendly choices,” said DeeAnne McClenahan, senior director of Procurement and Sustainability for Greystar. “By making small changes to our purchasing patterns through this program, not only will we lessen our environmental impact, but we will be reinvesting in our environment through the planting of new trees.”

“This initiative is a great addition to our already robust ideallygreen program at HD Supply Facilities Maintenance, which among other things includes a line of environmentally preferable products for our customers,” added Matzen. “And we’re exceptionally proud to be a part of the tree planting that can help to reduce pollution and aid the fight against climate change.”

This joint initiative launches this month for participating communities managed by Greystar.
