BOSTON—Imagine a world where restaurants could find the greenest products and most sustainable food from their own distributors. Imagine if these distributors only listed the green products that meet the Green Restaurant Association’s (GRA) environmental standards, and that each product on that list was vetted by the Green Restaurant Association’s team of restaurant sustainability consultants. Imagine that each product would list the environmental standard it meets, along with its GreenPoints score. That world is now here.

Up until now, it could be difficult for restaurateurs to find the green products they could rely upon to both work and have a lower environmental impact. Restaurateurs had to rely on their salespeople to be the environmental experts. Now, tens of thousands of restaurants in the Northeast can rely upon the nonprofit Green Restaurant Association. Now, restaurateurs for the first time can find the transparent, vetted, and consistent information on their distributors’ websites, and can purchase those green products.

Restaurateurs can now get sustainable food, greener chemicals, and better disposables at the first two Green Restaurant Distributors: Dole and Bailey and HT Berry. One can go to DoleandBailey.com, and then click on the Green Restaurant Distributor logo to see their list of hundreds of sustainable food items, such as sustainable seafood, organic meat, poultry, eggs, dairy, and flour.

Restaurateurs can find the greenest disposables at Htberry.com. When you click on the Green Restaurant Distributor logo, you can find recycled napkins, high post-consumer waste trash liners, a suite of compostable products…along with green cleaning chemicals. Each item at HT Berry and Dole and Bailey has been vetted by the Green Restaurant Association and will be updated as they bring on new products.

Usage Reports to be Provided

In addition to providing a reliable and convenient way for restaurateurs to source green solutions, these Green Restaurant Distributors will also furnish their clients with usage reports showing them all the green products and solutions they are using, which makes the process of becoming a Certified Green Restaurant much easier and quicker.

“The Green Restaurant Distributor program has been part of the Green Restaurant Association’s vision for many years,” said Michael Oshman, CEO and Founder of the Green Restaurant Association. “We are proud of Dole and Bailey & HT Berry for their leadership in both carrying hundreds of green products and making it easy for their customers to identify, purchase and track their green solutions.”

“All of us at H.T. Berry are thrilled to partner with the Green Restaurant Association (GRA) as the first Green Restaurant Distributor for paper, food service packaging, cleaning chemicals, and more,” stated Chris Nolan, President of the H.T. Berry Company located in Canton, Mass. “We believe in the platform developed by the GRA and feel that H.T. Berry’s strong offering of high quality sustainable green products that are affordable can really be a win-win-win for food service professionals interested in helping the environment.”

“Dole & Bailey is excited to be the first Green Restaurant Distributor for Food in the World,” said Nancy Matheson Burn, CEO/President. “This will continue to provide our customers the level of transparency and variety of sustainable foods that D&B has built our reputation on.”
