PLACENCIA, BELIZE—The Family Coppola Resorts announced the opening of Coral Caye, a private island eight miles off the coast of Placencia, Belize. A 20 minute boat ride from Coppola’s beachfront retreat, Turtle Inn, the rustic two-acre island makes the property the only Belizean mainland resort with its own private island. Furthering The Family Coppola Resort’s commitment to sustainability, Coral Caye relies heavily on solar power and caught rainwater and participates in coral and mangrove restoration programs. Guests are provided with personal stainless steel water bottles to fill with the island’s fresh filtered water.
Coral Caye provides a unique, once-in-a-lifetime experience for couples or small families alike to be “castaways” on their very own private island. Here guests can enjoy everything from snorkeling, diving and fishing to spa treatments and beach lounging. The island’s on-call caretakers, Alberto and his wife Pauline, will also be on hand to provide guests with all meals including continental Belizean breakfasts, delicious lunches and fresh seasonal seafood dinners. The package also includes boat transfers to and from the island to Turtle Inn’s dock. Optional a la carte extras include a private butler; private chef; alcohol (beers, imports and Coppola wines at menu price + 20 percent provisioning fee); spa services; guided off-island fishing tours and diving/snorkeling boat trips.
With two cottages, Coral Caye can accommodate as few as two guests and as many as twelve. The island is stocked with everything necessary for an authentic tropical getaway including canoes, snorkeling equipment, suntan lotion, bug spray, mosquito nets, hammocks, lounge chairs, games, fishing rods, shaded picnic tables, outdoor showers, music (drums and guitars) and kids toys. While there are no televisions on Coral Caye, Wi-Fi service and cell phone reception are available.
