DEZHOU, CHINA—Located in China Solar Valley in the Economic Development Zone of Dezhou, the Solar Valley Micro-E Hotel is part of Sun-Moon Mansion, the largest single solar powered structure in the world. Sun-Moon Mansion, an 800,000-square-foot building, includes more than two thousand solar collectors on its roof. The hotel opened in December 2009 and is part of complex that features solar air collectors, seasonal heat storage, solar heating and cooling, ceiling radiation, geothermal system, photovoltaic (PV) electricity generation, PV lighting, energy-saving glass, sun-shading panels, external wall insulation, and rainwater collection.

The five-star Solar Valley Micro-E Hotel was constructed by Himin Group and is located on the site of the company’s headquarters. Solar panels and solar heat pipe collectors harvest and store enough energy to meet 70 percent of the hotel’s energy needs.

The solar water heating installation at Sun-Moon Mansion can produce more than 125,000 gallons of hot water each day. Heated water is stored in two large tanks with the capacity of 20 tons each. PV panels generate about 36,000 kWh each year.

The Solar Valley includes a solar desalination plant and solar energy theme park and was the site of the 2010 International Solar Cities Congress.
