SALT LAKE CITY—RoomEnergy announced a fundamental commitment to protect the environment by becoming an Energy Star partner. RoomEnergy, through its voluntary partnership with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star Program, will work to improve energy efficiency and fight global warming.

RoomEnergy is the maker of a keycard-based energy conservation system. Using a guest’s room key, RoomEnergy’s wireless keycard switch can reduce energy consumption by up to 25 percent. Using patented, proven technology, RoomEnergy’s wireless switch produces its own power and does not require wiring or batteries. This communicates with the HVAC equipment to indicate occupied or unoccupied, much more consistent than motion detector-based systems.

“The Energy Star partnership clearly communicates to our hotel clientele the commitment RoomEnergy has made to energy conservation solutions,” says Troy Davis, vice president, RoomEnergy. “To encourage hotel industry adoption, we developed a system that is the fastest to install, requires no wiring or electricians, and has a very fast payback.”

In partnership with Energy Star, RoomEnergy will:

• Measure and track the energy performance of its facilities where possible by using tools such as those offered through Energy Star;
• Develop and implement a plan consistent with the Energy Star Energy Management Guidelines to achieve energy savings;
• Help spread the word about the importance of energy efficiency to its staff and community;
• Support the Energy Star Challenge, a national call-to-action to help improve the energy efficiency of America’s commercial and industrial buildings by 10 percent or more; and

• Highlight its achievements with recognition offered through Energy Star.

“Environmental responsibility is everyone’s responsibility, and today I’m pleased RoomEnergy is taking this motto to heart,” said EPA administrator Stephen L. Johnson. “By making smart energy choices, RoomEnergy is helping to improve our nation’s energy and environmental outlook.”
