MILLBRAE, CALIF.—Millwood Inn and Suites has earned a three Green Eco-Leaf Rating by completing a 70-point comprehensive eco-audit survey administered by iStayGreen.org—the online social network of environmentally friendly travel.
Millwood Inn and Suites becomes the first lodging property in Millbrae to receive the Green Eco-Leaf Rating. Currently, two hotels in Millbrae have been rated environmentally friendly, and Millwood Inn and Suites is the first to complete the comprehensive environmental audit administered by iStayGreen.org. The property earned three Green Eco-Leafs, which is a “Great” rating. All Green Eco-Leaf Rated properties are committed to environmentally friendly initiatives.
“Simple changes helped Millwood Inn and Suites earn their three Green Eco-Leaf Rating and become the first Millbrae lodging property rated,” says Richard Varner, founder of iStayGreen.org. “It’s great to see they are intent on insuring a more sustainable future in travel.”
Some of the eco-initiatives put in place at the property include: guests are offered the ability to carbon offset their stay; low energy lighting initiatives are in place; energy-efficient lighting is installed when replacing old lighting; energy sensor initiatives are in place; an HVAC control system has been installed; there are sheet and towel reuse options for multiple night stays; eco-initiatives are actively promoted to the public; water-conserving devices are installed when replacing old fixtures; recycling containers are located inside guestrooms and around the common areas; and reusable food & beverage service is used in lieu of disposable service items. While the Millwood Inn and Suites is the first Millbrae property to achieve the Green Eco-Leaf Rating, it is anticipated that many other properties in the area that are promoting eco-friendly initiatives will also seek to be rated. This eco-rating allows the public to know the specific environmental initiatives in place at a property, which enables the environmentally conscious traveler to make informed lodging decisions.
