I just added another hotel to the “Solar” section of the Renewable Energy All Stars portion of the Green Lodging News website—the Home2 Suites by Hilton San Francisco Airport North. The modular-built hotel is meeting about 50 percent of its electricity needs with its solar panels. The Home2 Suites by Hilton San Francisco Airport North joins a very long list of hotels in North America and beyond that have some type of solar configuration. When you check out the Solar section you will notice that many of the listings include links to not only the hotel’s website but also the article on the Green Lodging News website referring to the hotel.

Another recent addition to the Solar page is the LEED Platinum Home2 Suites by Hilton Silver Spring (Md.). That property is one of just seven LEED Platinum hotels or resorts in North America. When completed, its 124.8-kilowatt solar system, consisting of three arrays, located on the ground level of the hotel property, will provide 14 percent of the hotel’s electricity needs. Yet another recent addition is the Courtyard Lancaster in Pennsylvania. It is the first Marriott-branded hotel in the United States with 100 percent of its electricity needs generated from solar power.

Typically, hotels incorporating solar also have other cool, green things going on. These are revealed in the stories appearing on our site.

It is exciting to see so many projects incorporating solar technology.
