San Francisco Adopts Measure to Green Commercial Buildings

SAN FRANCISCO—The Board of Supervisors of San Francisco recently passed green building legislation that will improve energy efficiency in existing buildings, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, lower energy costs, and create green jobs. The ordinance will require owners of existing non-residential buildings to determine how much energy each building consumes, and to make that information public on an annual basis. TripAdvisor Asks 1,000 Lodging Owners About Green Plans

NEWTON, MASS.—TripAdvisor announced the results of its first annual survey of more than 1,000 U.S. accommodation owners—hoteliers, B&B owners and innkeepers—who revealed their plans to attract travelers in 2011 and increase repeat customers. According to the survey, 70 percent of survey respondents plan to offer programs in 2011 to reduce their impact on the environment. By contrast, 30 percent of accommodation owners have no plans to implement such programs. First Day of Sustainable Meetings Conference Concludes

PORTLAND, ORE.—The sixth annual Sustainable Meetings Conference, organized by the Green Meeting Industry Council (GMIC), kicked off yesterday with a full slate of educational sessions and news that GMIC has grown to 600 members in more than 30 countries. NEW YORK—Hilton Inn at Penn, a AAA Four Diamond hotel, is nearing the end of a multi-million dollar renovation designed to modernize the property’s 238 guestrooms and suites. Study: Half of Corporate Real Estate Executives Will Pay More for Space in Green Buildings
