ALPHARETTA, GA.—The Refinishing Touch, a leader in on-site environmentally safe, furniture refinishing and reupholstery services, has launched an awards program to honor and recognize sustainability within the hospitality industry.

To qualify for the awards, hospitality organizations need to demonstrate a commitment to implementing environmentally-friendly practices that reduce their carbon footprint, and minimize landfill waste. The program recognizes companies that are demonstrating a commitment to sustainability, and is also designed to incentivize others to consider ways they can reduce their environmental impact.

The Refinishing Touch has refurbished more than 1.5 million rooms of furniture to date, saving the equivalent of approximately two million hardwood trees from landfill. The company’s 20,000 clients include government organizations, universities and hospitality chains, boutique firms and household names such as Intercontinental Hotels Group (IHG), Choice Hotels, and Hilton Hotels Corporation Worldwide.

“As a company we are committed to helping individual business owners and organizations lessen their carbon footprint,” said Mario Insenga, founder and president of The Refinishing Touch. “We have worked with almost every name in hospitality, and we are engaged and committed to this industry and want to foster a positive spirit about refurbishing and sustainability. These awards, the public recognition and our sustainable roll call is our way of doing this.”

“Even in a steady business climate, the hospitality industry can be extremely competitive,” Insenga says. “This can foster an inclination to hurry—to put all focus on purely cash-related results. In many cases, we see the environment and the chance to review more sustainable ways of doing business being overlooked and taking a back seat to agendas driven solely by the bottom line. But there are a staggering number of hotel chains, boutique owners and hospitality professionals that are committed to exploring alternatives, which realize that environmental responsibility and economic success are not mutually exclusive. We believe that these efforts are to be recognized and applauded.”
