PHOENIX—Bill McKay, a lodging industry veteran and product pioneer who has the distinction of being the son of the inventor of the lint roller, is adding to his collection of hair towel wraps to help stem the flow of full-size towels to the laundry. His company’s name is MYSA Towel and those full-size towels, typically used by ladies to wrap their hair in, increase the environmental impact of the laundry by consuming energy, water, chemicals, and increasing labor time and other costs. “Now the laundry is not going to be processing as many full-size bath towels,” McKay says.

McKay cited the current status of Lake Mead as just one example of the need to conserve water.

According to McKay, his company’s latest amenity for ladies is a quick-dry hair towel wrap made from bamboo. The wrap is reusable, disposable, and biodegradable. “It elevates the guest experience,” he says.

“Made from bamboo, Mysa’s patented hair towel wrap is the first of its kind,” McKay says. “I engineered a product that had never been made before. It elevates the class of hair turbines. By using a renewable source, this towel uses a much smaller carbon footprint and adds an entirely new option to the luxury hospitality industry. This right-sized hair towel wrap with slip through hold creates a luxury feeling and is actually better for hair since it eliminates rubbing and frizziness.”

“The bamboo wicks very quickly,” McKay says. “We are using a spun local bamboo. It is soft and strong and highly renewable. We do not bleach it or colorize it.”

‘Resonates with Women’

The shape of the hair towel wrap quickly identifies it as a hair towel that wraps. “It resonates with women,” McKay says, adding that it can be used as often as you would like even though it is disposable.

McKay says that while a towel containing polyester can take a lifetime to biodegrade, the bamboo hair towel wrap needs just two to three years.

The bamboo hair towel wrap can be presented to guests in a custom, branded bamboo box made from 85 percent recycled material and using soy-based inks.

In addition to bamboo, MYSA Towel offers hair-drying wraps that feature MYSAtec, superabsorbent, ultrafine polyester/nylon fibers split to 1/100th the diameter of a human hair. Much finer than silk and brushed to create a soft, pebble-like finish, the premier hair wraps pull moisture from the hair and releases it into the air using capillary action. Like the bamboo wraps, they have multiple benefits: MYSAtec microfiber withstands thousands of washes, is more durable than terry bath towels, holds its shape, and can save up to 50 percent on the cost of towels each year. The premium fabric does not release lint or microplastics into community water systems or the ocean, plus all dyes are nontoxic.

All MYSA Towel hair wraps are available in customized outer shells and fabrics in designs of one’s choosing. They are also button and elastic free and one size fits all.
