WHITE PLAINS, N.Y.—The International Hotel/Motel & Restaurant Show (IH/M&RS) has solidified partnerships with the Green Restaurant Assn. (GRA) and Green Lodging News, paving the way for enhanced sustainability initiatives at the 2007 market, taking place November 10-13, 2007, at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. Leaders of the two organizations will take active roles in presenting environmental seminars and developing sustainable hotel and restaurant awards. In addition, the GRA will host the Show’s first annual Green Restaurant Assn. Pavilion, showcasing the latest GRA-endorsed green products for the foodservice industry.

“Sustainability is the hot topic in the industry right now, as hoteliers and restaurateurs discover the environmental and economic impact of eco-friendly practices,” says Gene Rupnik, chairman of the 2007 IH/M&RS Board of Directors. “We’re pleased to offer our attendees and exhibitors the opportunity to learn more about this evolving trend, and subsequently raise awareness for the green movement.”

The 2007 IH/M&RS will feature three sustainability seminars, one presented by the GRA and two presented by Green Lodging News. The first annual Sustainable Restaurant Award and Sustainable Hotel Award will highlight the market, recognizing properties at the forefront of green practices. In addition, green categories will be introduced to the Editors’ Choice Awards competition, recognizing the best environmentally-friendly new products launched within the past year in the categories of décor, essentials, luxury, restaurant and technology.

Attendees will discover a dedicated green section on the Show floor, as the GRA presents the first IH/M&RS pavilion of companies offering sustainable products for the foodservice industry. Exhibitors interested in participating must meet the GRA’s qualifying standards for inclusion. Additional information is available by contacting Michael Oshman, GRA executive director, at gra@dinegreen.com.
