LAS VEGAS—This year’s Hospitality Design Expo + Conference, to be held May 15 to 17 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, will feature a Green Voice Luncheon on May 15, a series of Green Voice Conversations with Experts on May 15 and May 16, and a special session on “Creating a Sustainable ROI for Hotels” on May 15. More than 900 exhibitors’ products and services—many of which have a sustainability focus—will be included on the Expo’s trade show floor.

At the Green Voice Luncheon from noon to 1:30 p.m. on May 15, David Mahood, LEED AP, Olive Designs and Olive Hospitality Consulting, will moderate a panel discussion that will include: Adrienne Pumphrey, Global Head, Adoba Eco Hotel and Suites; JoAnna Abrams, CEO, MindClick SGM; David Tracz, AIA, LEED AP, Partner, at STUDIO3877; and Dr. Mark Westneat, Curator and Chair of Zoology, Field Museum. The focus of the discussion will be, “Sustainable Hospitality in the Crossroads of Climate Change.”

Hotels and other buildings dependent on tourism have been accepting that changing climatic patterns are impacting business today and will factor into decisions for the future. Sustainable practices are being adopted worldwide to balance the effect of resource consumption and global mobility. The carbon footprint of most hotels is being closely monitored and many innovative efforts have been made toward reducing global carbon output. Hotels, due to the scale of energy and resource usage, are assessing all aspects of their business models—from land development to design, from employment to supply chain, and from renovation to resale. The panel of diverse voices, with disparate experiences, will engage in a thought provoking and creative discussion of hotels, tourism, and what the road ahead may look like.
