HARTFORD, CONN.—The estimated $7 trillion travel industry has been among the first to respond to consumers’ demands for environmentally responsible options. Mainstream brands across all categories will have the opportunity to learn how lessons from the green marketing success of the eco-travel industry can be applied to their own green marketing strategies during Good and Green—The Green Marketing Conference, November 29 to 30, 2007, at the Chicago Cultural Center.

Led by Kathy Dragon, founder of ActiveWoman.com and recognized travel expert, the panel will include travel industry leaders Hank Stewart, vice-president of Green Team USA; Dave Pflieger, general counsel for Virgin America Airlines; Bob McElwee, publisher of Modern Traveler Magazine; and Kristin Glass, marketing manager for Leading Hotels of the World.

“Many believe that the greening of the travel and hospitality industry could be the single most significant driver of marketing, revenue and cost benefits,” says Kristin Glass, marketing manager for Leading Hotels of the World. “Consumers are committed to preserving the environment—so much so that many are willing to shift their purchase decisions and brand loyalty. Providing responsible options not only allows companies to solidify their relationships with current consumers but also allows them to drive new business.”

During this Good and Green panel discussion, brands will discover how success in the green marketing space comes from learning how to effectively balance the needs of the consumer with the needs of the environment. Says Bob McElwee, publisher and co-founder of Modern Traveler Magazine, “Green travelers are making enlightened choices to ensure their trip doesn’t negatively affect the environment or the local people in the places they visit. But, they are also looking to have an outrageous adventure or chic travel experience.”
