What does the Jiminy Peak Mountain Resort, Algonquin Eco-Lodge, Missouri Hilton Garden Inn, and Proximity Hotel have in common? They are all included in Green Lodging News’ inaugural Renewable Energy All Stars section. I am excited to announce that Green Lodging News has added this section to the left hand side of the Green Lodging News website. It is located just below the entry points for the Green Product & Service Directory and Founding Sponsors sections.

Renewable Energy All Stars is divided into four lists: Wind Powered, Hydroelectric Powered, Geothermal Powered, and Solar Powered. There are 172 properties included in the new section: 132 in Solar Powered, 19 in Wind Powered, 18 in Geothermal Powered, and 3 in Hydroelectric Powered. There are two primary reasons for the new section: to honor owners/operators of those lodging establishments that have made an investment in renewable energy; and to make it easier for those conducting research on wind, hydroelectric, geothermal, and solar technologies to find working examples. Those considering investing in renewable energy can more easily identify peers to contact with questions and advice.

Admittedly, the new section will always be a work in progress; there are most certainly properties out there that should be included but are not yet included. Likewise, there will be times when I will have to remove a property from the section. There will be those out there who wish that I included more information about specific renewable energy systems at each property—a daunting task.

Green Lodging News Article Links Included

Where possible, I have included links to related articles on the Green Lodging News website. Initially, I have tried to concentrate on including properties in the United States, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central America. There are some properties included that are located outside those areas. I know there are many properties in Europe that incorporate solar panels; I will get to as many of those as possible soon.

If you believe your property or another property deserves to be included in the All Stars section but currently is not, please contact me. With your assistance, I can make the section even more complete than it already is.

Together, all of the properties included in the Renewable Energy All Stars section are leading our industry toward a more sustainable future—one not so reliant on dirty energy. As an industry we can do so much more to support renewable energy, either through direct investment in on-property systems or renewable energy credits that help fund off-property projects.

I hope you find the new section useful. I can be reached at (440) 243-2055 or by e-mail at editor@greenlodgingnews.com.

Who is Your Environmental Champion?

In our Personnel Profile section we frequently profile individuals who lead sustainability efforts at either the corporate or property level. (Click here for examples.) We are always looking for new people to profile. Do you have someone in mind for our Personnel Profile section? Looking for Guest Columnists

Every two weeks Green Lodging News posts a new guest column on its website. (Click here for examples.) The guest column also appears in the weekly e-newsletter. Green Lodging News is currently in need of industry experts to contribute occasional guest columns. Experts may include consultants, architects, designers, suppliers and those who own or operate green lodging establishments. Columns may be articles that take a stance on a particular subject or be strictly educational in nature. Columnists benefit by having their photo included along with a one paragraph description of their company. Interested in writing a column? Contact Glenn Hasek, publisher and editor, at (440) 243-2055, or by e-mail at editor@greenlodgingnews.com.

Advertising Opportunities

Green Lodging News is accepting reservations for advertising spots. Several new slots have opened up on the Green Lodging News website—two skyscraper ad spots on the right hand side of the site, and the Featured Product ad spot in the weekly newsletter and in the lower center area of the home page. Be sure to contact me as soon as possible at (440) 243-2055, or by e-mail at editor@greenlodgingnews.com if you are interested in these ad spots. There are also many Green Supplier Spotlight dates available, and other spots on the website and in the weekly e-newsletter. The 2011 media kit is available by request or by clicking here. Thank you to all of those companies that consistently support Green Lodging News.
