Evans Hotels Introduces New Corporate Social Responsibility Program: WE CARE

SAN DIEGO—Evans Hotels, one of the premier hospitality leaders in Southern California, is pleased to announce its new corporate social responsibility program called WE CARE along with its first annual scorecard. Evans Hotels is a family-run business with a deep commitment to San Diego; its portfolio includes Bahia Resort Hotel and Catamaran Resort Hotel and Spa in Mission Bay as well as The Lodge at Torrey Pines, the AAA Five Diamond property in La Jolla.

The WE CARE social responsibility program is in line with the company’s belief that its hotels are both “of the community” and “for the community,” and focuses on three key areas: people, community, and environment. Through the efforts embodied in the WE CARE initiative, Evans Hotels helps ensure that San Diego shines—the oceans, beaches, bays, and parks are clean; its people and communities are healthy and thriving; and there is a wide variety of events and attractions for both visitors and residents to enjoy.

Evans Hotels has demonstrated its commitment to donating, conserving, and volunteering to a variety of causes and nonprofit organizations for more than 60 years. Evans Hotels debuted WE CARE to reaffirm its core social responsibility values and key areas of focus: Wellness and health, Education, Children and youth, Arts and culture, Responsible conservation, and Environmental stewardship.

Evans Hotels is committed to supporting and enhancing employee well-being through a variety of programs that support and nurture its team professionally and personally. Through these programs, Evans Hotels is able to build a healthy, well-trained workforce that has a strong positive connection to the organization and helps to enhance the guest experience.

Facts at a Glance:

  • 1,186 individuals employed;
  • 47 percent of managers received advanced training in leadership development;
  • 54 employees assisted with their path to U.S. Citizenship through the New American Workforce Program; and
  • 100 (8.4 percent) employees have 20+ years of service.

Community

Evans Hotels has a long history of supporting local community organizations that enrich the lives of residents and guests. Through WE CARE, Evans Hotels is dedicated to strengthening the community through donating time, goods, services and cash to causes that ensure San Diego shines for the company’s workforce, families and neighbors.

  • More than 1 million guests served;
  • $6 million rent paid to the City of San Diego;
  • $6.7 million hotel taxes and assessments paid;
  • More than 150 community organizations supported; and
  • More than $300,000 value of cash and in-kind donations to community organizations.

Environment

Improving and sustaining the local environment through careful stewardship of natural resources is a key focus at Evans Hotels. The company is dedicated to making the oceans, beaches, bays, and parks healthier and more beautiful through local cleanup efforts, waste diversion, water conservation, and energy efficiency as well as carbon emissions reduction.

Facts at a Glance:

  • 76 percent of total waste diverted from landfills;
  • 357 tons of food waste composted (100 percent of collected food waste generated);
  • 100 percent of paper products made from recycled materials (napkins, paper towels, toilet paper, printer paper, face tissue, take out containers and cups); and
  • 192 pounds of waste removed from beaches during cleanups.
