NEW YORK—Carnegie, a leading manufacturer and innovator of textiles and wallcoverings, has introduced Surface IQ, a breakthrough wall covering technology. Surface IQ is built from the polymer up, eliminating the hazardous use of vinyl, chlorine, plasticizers, heavy metals, formaldehyde and dioxin. Built on thermoplastic olefin technology (TPO), it delivers both performance and ecology simultaneously, and features the bold colors, striking patterns and rich, subtle textures that the Carnegie name has become synonymous with.

Using only water-based inks and coatings, the first Surface IQ collection consists of eight designs including three signature patterns: Bloom, Mix and Intersect. The line offers more than 50 standard colorways.

Durability, cleanability and longevity have all been engineered into Surface IQ. Surface IQ matches and exceeds all Type II vinyl specifications—making it an unparalleled offering in its category and the replacement for vinyl that many designers and architects have been waiting for.

Among its many breakthrough points, Surface IQ features clean TPO polymer technology, uses halogen free flame retardants and meets Cal 01350 protocol for indoor air quality for LEED points.

“We are at a point in our world where ‘going green’ isn’t just an option—it’s a necessity,” says Heather Bush, creative director for Carnegie. “Carnegie has always had a PVC Free product policy spurring us to research alternative materials. Surface IQ is the result of Carnegie’s commitment to sustainable design and to our deeply held belief that we must all hold ourselves responsible as designers, as businesspeople, and as individuals.”
