WASHINGTON, D.C.—A new legislation has been put in place known as the Biden Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. Its purpose is to put action behind the long celebrated “infrastructure week” as there are many parts to this law. One piece of the document that stands out for hotels is the passion to increase electric vehicle (EV) use. To encourage combustion engine vehicle owners to switch over to EVs, $7.5 billion will be invested to implement chargers across the United States.

Hotels that have been considering becoming more sustainable can benefit from this act considering it would allow them to finally have an EV charger on site. The point of investing so much money into this sector, is to reach a goal of having a nationwide network of 500,000 chargers across the United States. By increasing the number of chargers across the country more EV owners would be motivated to travel by car and not have to worry if their car would be able to last until the next station.

A hotel having an EV charging station or not will be a deciding factor in whether an EV owner is going to stay the night or spend time in the lobby. This would also bring in more business from customers who are trying to be more ecologically conscious and want to support those businesses who are making the first move towards a greener Earth.
