GRIFFIN, GA.—1888 Mills announced key leadership changes taking place over the next few months that merge the talents and perspectives of new and existing 1888 employees. The changes have been in process for over a year as 1888 has been building a succession plan based on the ever-changing retail and commercial landscape.

Beginning January 1, Rob Sayre, President Commercial Products, will be appointed to CEO. Sayre will be taking the reigns from Jonathan Simon who will be retiring at the end of this year. Simon will serve on the Board of Managers of 1888 Mills USA and continue to serve on the board of its global affiliates.

Sayre joined 1888 Mills in 2013 and was hired with the succession plan in mind. Sayre began his career with 1888 as the Divisional VP of Consumer Products and Sr. VP of Strategy and Development. In 2017 he moved to the Commercial SBU to shadow the retiring president and learn the hospitality and healthcare business. In 2018 Sayre became President of Hospitality sales and last year the healthcare division was put under his leadership as well. Sayre now serves as President Commercial Products Division. Prior to joining 1888 Rob had start up experience with a technology firm and was a turnaround consultant where he led teams to assist consumer goods and retail clients with corporate strategy. He also held leadership positions at Life Fitness, Philips, and C.H. Robinson. “Rob is a bright, energetic, and principled individual. He is customer focused and is a strong communicator. We are fortunate to have someone of Rob’s talent take over the leadership of 1888 Mills. He, along with his high-caliber executive team will propel 1888 Mills to new heights in the coming years,” said Simon.

New CFO Appointed

Additionally, Tom Wierimaa will be appointed Chief Financial Officer. Wierimaa started with the company as a consultant and is currently on-board full time leading the accounting team. Prior to 1888 Mills, Wierimma worked in private practice as well as large companies and served in multiple rolls from operational finance to managing acquisitions and corporate strategy. He has served in a CFO capacity for over 10 years. “Tom is a welcome addition to the 1888 team. He is a high energy individual with the financial knowledge one expects from a strong CFO. He has an uncanny work ethic and the ability to clearly communicate complex issues to employees and board members alike,” said Rob Sayre.

The company has also announced that Amy Laabs, currently VP for Hospitality Strategic Accounts will be promoted to President Hospitality Sales Division. Laabs has been with 1888 Mills for 16 years and has managed various positions throughout her career including product development, marketing, and sales. “Amy has an incredible ability to continuously exceed customer expectations and build strong relationships. Coupled with her deep product knowledge, strong financial acumen, and her ability to lead and motivate she will thrive in this role.” said Rob Sayre.

“These executive changes have been an integral part of our strategy for several years. They reflect the evolution of our customers and the retail and commercial landscapes. This new leadership team is dynamic, adaptable, and forward thinking. I am excited to see what they can do and where they can take 1888 Mills,” said Jonathan Simon.
