Your Assistance Needed for Upcoming Amenity Dispensers Article

This past week I reported on a few of the environmental initiatives recently rolled out at the St. Louis-based Drury Hotels Company. Be sure to read the article. One of the most compelling things Drury is doing is installing amenity dispensers in all of its 123 Drury branded properties. The move is expected to save the purchase and disposal of at least 1.8 million amenity bottles a year. (Drury will still offer a facial bar soap at the bathroom sink.) Congratulations to Drury for taking this environmentally responsible step.

I will be writing an article about amenity dispensers in the coming weeks, offering vendors the opportunity to chat about their latest products and trying to get input from those who have used dispensers at their properties and those who have not for whatever the reason may be. There is certainly a place for dispensers in our industry—in all industry segments. The fact is, however, that most properties in the United States still do not use them.

To help me with my article, I need your input. Please take a moment and answer the following questions for me:

1. If you are currently using amenity dispensers at your property, what do you like most about them? Dislike?
2. If you are using dispensers, are you satisfied with the safety/locking features? If yes, why? If not, why not?
3. If you absolutely refuse to use them, why so?
4. In your quest to install dispensers, have you run up against brand standards that bar them? If so, what was the outcome?
5. Are you satisfied with the selection and style of dispensers available to our industry?
6. Are you satisfied with the selection of natural liquids available for dispensers?
7. If you have dispensers, what has guest feedback been like?
8. If you have dispensers, do you include any messaging along with them in the guestroom to describe their environmental upside?

Please be sure to e-mail your replies to editor@greenlodgingnews.com. You are also welcome to call me at (440) 243-2055. The industry dynamics as they pertain to dispensers are very interesting. I am looking forward to writing the article.

Instead, a new initiative called “Green Conversations” will take place during the Expo and feature prominent speakers in the green field. Watch for more details here in the coming weeks.
