HITEC 2018 is coming up very soon. It will be held June 18 to 21 at the LEED Silver certified George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston. If you are planning to attend the event and have energy conservation or sustainability on your mind, you will need to pay attention to one conference session. The session, “Saving Energy While Others Pay the Bill: Sustainability and CSR,” will take place on Monday, June 18 from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. The following is the session description: “Hospitality organizations that implement and maintain corporate social responsibility (CSR) practices are in a position to better attract, improve and retain business; making an environmental sustainability plan crucial to corporate strategy. Discover CSR as a company initiative and hear real life examples from industry experts.” The moderator will be Diane Estner, President, DANNI Enterprises. Panelists will include: John Picard, 2016 USGBC nominee, a sustainability expert and founder of JPA; Henry Shields, Executive Director of Finance and Corporate Sustainability at MGM Resorts International; and Lyle Worthington, CHTP, CIO at The Student Hotel, a member of the HITEC Advisory Council and the HFTP Global Immediate Past President.

Aside from this session, be sure to walk the trade show floor and look for companies specializing in energy conservation. Among those companies on the exhibitor list: Control4; Evolve Controls; Goodman Co., LP—Amana PTAC Sales; Honeywell—INNCOM; LG Electronics; Telkonet; and Verdant Environmental Technologies Inc.
